This week, we continue our immersive adventure - this time with three live-action VR films and experiences that put you at the centre of the action. From life aboard the International Space Station to an intimate concert experience and a virtual tour of the White House, each demonstrates a different approach to using immersive filmmaking to bring audiences closer to places, people and experiences they couldn’t otherwise access.
With the new Immersive category, supported by Meta, now open for entries to the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards 2027, we’re currently on the lookout for short films using one or more of these Immersive formats – 3D, 180° and/or 360° video.
1. Space Explorers: The ISS Experience
The largest production ever filmed in space, Space Explorers: The ISS Experience is a four-part immersive series created by Felix & Paul Studios and TIME Studios, and directed by Félix Lajeunesse and Paul Raphaël. Follow eight astronauts aboard the International Space Station as they live and work in orbit, offering an unprecedented perspective on life in space – from everyday routines to extraordinary missions.

2. Kacey Musgraves: Middle of Nowhere
Created by Untold Studios and directed by Rohan Blair-Mangat, Kacey Musgraves: Middle of Nowhere brings the eight-time GRAMMY Award winner closer than the front row. Filmed in immersive 360°, the experience puts you at the heart of the performance as Musgraves performs songs from her acclaimed album Golden Hour.
3. The People's House
Created by Felix & Paul Studios and Oculus, and directed by Félix Lajeunesse and Paul Raphaël, The People’s House takes viewers inside the White House for an immersive journey through its history and architecture. Featuring Barack and Michelle Obama, the experience offers a rare opportunity to explore the building and hear personal perspectives on its significance.

Have you been working on a short film using one of the Immersive formats – 3D, 180° and/or 360° video? Make sure to enter it into the Immersive category of the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards 2027.
You could be flown to Los Angeles to take part in an industry program at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, culminating in an Awards ceremony.
