2026 Winners & Shortlist
The Sony Future Filmmaker Awards have revealed the 2026 winners at a gala ceremony hosted by Emmy-award winner Denny Directo (Entertainment Tonight) in the iconic Sony Pictures Studios Scenic Arts Building in Culver City. Now in its fourth edition, this prestigious global awards program for short films uncovers the filmmakers reshaping cinema's future. Established by Creo and sponsored by Sony, the Awards aim to highlight outstanding original talents and launch them directly into the heart of the film industry.
The winners were selected from a global shortlist of 30 films representing over 20 countries, drawn originally from more than 8,400 filmmakers across 162 countries and territories.

Babel explores how policy and circumstance can quietly pit neighbor against neighbor.

Without dialogue, through editing that makes use of jump cuts, the short moves forward in time and through the couple’s life to explore their dreams and fears. The short, shot using a vertical aspect ratio (9:16), is accompanied by an original soundtrack.

Aisha would do anything to see her brother, Sammad, smile. On his birthday, Sammad wishes for three ice creams, which he's hopeless about, as he is familiar with their mother’s strained financial condition after their father abandoned them. Determined to make his day special, Aisha gathers all her savings and travels across vast terrains in sweltering heat to bring ice cream for Sammad. When she arrives at the shop, she discovers that the ice creams have already started melting due to a power outage. Now, she must race against time to carry the ice creams across great distances, hoping that the heat doesn't turn them into liquid. Life is Like Ice Cream uses melting ice cream as an allegory for a collapsing family, showing that no matter how dire the circumstances, one can always make the best of it.

The Night Shift is an urban thriller about intuition, déjà vu, and reading the signs that might break the cycle.
